Radon Mitigation in Bishop, GA
Challenge
We were contacted by a real estate salesperson in Athens, Georgia who had a house under contract in Bishop that needed radon mitigation. His home inspector did a radon test for a potential buyer and the results came back at 8.7 pCi/L. This is more than twice the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. We came out the next day to inspected the property and design a mitigation system.
Solution
When we entered the attic we noticed that the home builder had installed a passive radon mitigation system when they built the house. This was great news for everyone involved. Instead of installing an entire system, we could simply install a radon fan in the attic where the builder had left space in the exhaust piping and a junction box to power the fan.
The home inspector may have missed the passive system in the attic during his inspection but we applaud him for offering radon testing to his client. 14.4% of homes in Oconee County, Georgia have elevated radon levels.
