Cancer Survivor Needs Radon Mitigation
Challenge
We had a new homeowner that was a lung cancer survivor contact us when she purchased a home in Loganville, Georgia that had levels of 3.8 pCi/L during her home inspection. Radon is very real and we occasionally meet lung cancer survivors that learned about radon the hard way.
There is so much misinformation about radon and the risk of living with radon. One of the big misconceptions we hear repeated is that radon levels are only high in basements and if you live in a slab home or a home with a crawlspace, you do not need to test for radon. This is not the case at all. Every home has a potential for radon gas entry.
Another common misconception is that radon levels are safe if they are below 4.0 pCi/L. There is no "safe" level of radon and reducing your exposure is the only way to reduce your risk of getting lung cancer from radon.
Solution
Our client knew that reducing her exposure as much as possible was necessary. The home was on a slab home with all of the floors finished. We were able to drill from the garage under the living area to mitigate the home.
Our client was thrilled when she got her post-mitigation testing results. The average was 0.8 pCi/L when she did her follow-up test.
